Parks & Cemetery Division
The principal goal of the Parks Division is to maintain approximately city
parks and fields, cemeteries and trees that are used by thousands of
Hartford residents and visitors for recreation and improved quality of life.
- Maintenance including lawn mowing, litter collection, vegetative
plantings, field preparation of 37 parks, 2,300 acres of park
land including Batterson Park.
- Maintenance of horticultural medians, Elizabeth park greenhouse, 70
athletic fields, 5 cemeteries.
- Maintenance 20,000 street trees as well as forestry management of trees
in parks and recreational areas.
- Permits & Reservations for use of parks, fields for sports, weddings or
other events.
- Coordination and park preparation/cleaning for approximately 275
special events annually in city parks.
- Burials in 4 active cemeteries including Soldier’s Field, burial
listings, cemetery history.
- Snow and ice removal from city building sidewalks & parking lots,
daycare and recreational centers, park sidewalks.
